We partner with Musizi University
An upcoming private Liberal Arts college in Uganda
to support the institution’s growth, program development, and student scholarships.
Our Mission
By fusing ethics, entrepreneurship, and excellence with African-centred education, Musizi University seeks to nurture leaders who think critically, act compassionately, and serve boldly. Musizi is led by founders Elaine Alowo Matovu, co-founder of The North Green School (K-12 international school serving ~700 students), and Dr. Takako Mino, former lecturer at Ashesi University (ranked 9th in Sub-Saharan Africa).
What makes MU different?

Every MU student will do an internship that will enable them to gain invaluable work experiences as well as develop a realistic understanding and the confidence to make a difference in the world. MU collaborates with industry partners to find and create opportunities for student internships, job shadowing, field visits, mentoring, consulting projects, and career openings.
In all MU courses, students learn by doing and acquire the necessary theories and skills for completing their inquiry rather than learning theories out of context. When they graduate, students will have a portfolio of projects to share with employers, which will demonstrate proven abilities — giving them a competitive edge in the job market.

MU will be the first liberal arts college in Uganda. MU will take an interdisciplinary approach to learning that enables students to think and act across various fields. Students will take liberal arts core courses, major courses, and electives that will enable them to gain self-awareness, analyze the world, and impact the world.
The liberal arts and sciences education is the most powerful mode of learning to equip students with the competencies required to tackle today’s global challenges because it prepares students to think critically, practice real-world problem-solving, and apply interdisciplinary analysis to global issues. It prepares our students to adapt to the uncertain, evolving world through shaping flexible thinkers who are employable across a variety of industries.

By studying local and global challenges as well as indigenous knowledge, such as the humanistic ethos of Obuntu Bulamu, the Musizi student will deeply care for others and strive to make a difference for the benefit of all. Through core courses that explore the local context as well as their own personal narratives, MU students will develop a holistic understanding of themselves and think about how they can help transform the collective narrative as ethical leaders.

Musizi University (MU) derives its name from the Musizi tree, a native tree of Uganda. Because of its tall height, one might expect it to weed out competition for nutrients and sunlight, but it’s quite the opposite. Musizi means “the sowing tree” in the local language of Luganda because it supports and protects life and allows smaller plants to blossom by providing adequate sunlight and shade.
Much like the tree its name is derived from, Musizi University students aspire to be empathetic thinkers and doers. Through an intentional curriculum, Musizi University students will become aware of who they are, understand the world’s challenges, and be ready to take initiative for the world around them to thrive.
